Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch accidentally swore twice on the Ellen Show, after a crew member dressed as Iron Man startled him during an interview.

The Iron Man impersonator jumped out of a fake coffee table and roared in Cumberbatch’s face, just moments after the 41-year-old star told host Ellen Degeneres that he scares “very easily”.

“Ah, f*** off!” the startled star yelled, covering his face with his hands as the prankster scurried off behind stage.

While the studio’s audience roared with laughter, the actor accidentally let another expletive slip as he clutched at his chest.

“Good, I am still alive,” the actor laughed. “This isn’t Heaven, although it would be nice to be in heaven with you. Thank Christ for that.”

After he had recovered from the shock that he later claimed put him in “fight or flight” mode, the actor joked that real-life Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. had been behind the mask.

Currently promoting the upcoming Avengers film, the actor quipped: “Robert you’ve got to stop doing that! It’s getting tired but clearly not on me. Wow.”

Fearing that another prank may have been imminent, the Sherlock star began inspecting items in the studio and questioned: “'What else is hollow here that might suddenly [open]?”

A hugely popular segment on the Ellen Show, the celebrity host regularly pranks her guests in unexpected ways.

Frightening the cast of American Horror Story by dressing up as the show’s villains, Ellen has also been known for terrorize Taylor Swift on her multiple appearances on the American daytime TV show.

Avengers: Infinity War is currently in cinemas.
