Cheryl, Holly Willoughby and Amanda Holden are among a host of celebrities who have shared heartfelt posts in celebration of International Women’s Day.

March 8 annually commemorates and celebrates women and their rights worldwide.

Social media has been awash, and rightly so, with people all over the world paying tribute to the strong women in their lives as well as inspirational females globally, past and present.

Cheryl, who has a son with Liam Payne, was one of many stars to pay homage to the day with a sweet tweet.

The singer wrote: “Happy international woman’s day! Over the past year especially I have come to realise just how incredible we women truly are.

“High 5’s all round. What a time to be a woman.” She ended the post with a series of emojis.

This Morning host Willoughby posted an adorable throwback snap of herself with her mother and sister.

Posting on Instagram, she captioned the snap: “Happy International Women’s Day to these two power house women in my life... my mother and my sister... love you both! #internationalwomensday.”

Emma Bunton also paid tribute to her “inspiration and strength” with a throwback image of her and her mother.

And Baby Spice also posted a shoutout to her “ladies” with an image of the Spice Girls, who are set to reunite.

Sharing a photo of the “incredible” women in her life, Britain’s Got Talent judge Holden wrote: “The best type of #friendships are #fierce #lady friendships where you aggressively believe in each other, defend each other and think the other deserves the world.

“I’m truly honoured to have these #incredible #women in my life. #internationalwomensday.”

Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher also tweeted a touching tribute to his partner.

He wrote: "Where would I be without my WOMAN as you were LG x".
