The brand new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence has been released, giving fans a first proper look at the forthcoming film.

Twenty years after the original, the planet prepares for another alien attack and this time London is in the firing line.

The explosive clips show landmarks include Tower Bridge and the London Eye destroyed as Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum battle to save the world.

Promising to be very action-packed, the new film sees the same alien race use new technology against the world in another attempt to destroy it.

“It has its own gravity,” says Goldblum’s character David Levinson. “What goes up must come down.”

Hemsworth and Goldblum lead the cast while Bill Pullman returns as President Whitmore, as does Vivica A Fox as Jasmine Dubrow.

While Will Smith has not returned for the sequel, actor Jessie Usher will play his stepson from the original film.

Director Roland Emmerich , who helmed the 1996 film, is back on board for the follow-up and is rumoured to be in the process of making a third film.

Independence Day: Resurgence is released in UK cinemas on June 23.
