Former politician Edwina Currie has backed Jake Quickenden to be named King of the Jungle after she was voted off I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!

Her departure leaves two-time X Factor contestant Quickenden, TV presenter Mel Sykes and former world Superbike champion Carl "Foggy" Fogarty vying for the crown in the final.

Upon hearing that she had not made it to the last stage of the competition, Currie said: "That is exactly what should happen, brilliant."

Speaking to Ant and Dec after leaving camp, she stated that before joining the competition she thought it would be horrible in the jungle. But she said: "In fact they were a terrific bunch of people. It was a privilege and a pleasure to know them and that's not flannel."

Earlier in the episode Currie said the only thing she could compare to her experience in the jungle was childbirth.

When asked who she thought would take the top spot, she said that while all three would make worthy winners, her pick was Quickenden.

"He's a gent, he's a star," she said. "He's a great star in the making and he doesn't even know it."

Quickenden is also the favourite with bookmaker Coral going into tonight's final at 11-10. Fogarty is second best in the betting at 11-8, while Sykes is the outsider of the three celebrities still left in the competition at 4-1.

"Jake has been very popular with the betting public ever since he set foot into the jungle. He was soon backed into favouritism, a tag in which he still holds going into Sunday's final," said Coral's John Hill.
