Hugh Jackman has revealed that he turned down the role of James Bond eight years ago.

The Australian star admitted that he rejected the part as it was around the same time that he was filming X Men 2, although he would ‘seriously consider’ it now.

Discussing the role which eventually went to Daniel Craig on Australian TV show The Project, Jackman said:

“I sort of have (been asked). At the time I was just about to do X-Men 2 and I was like, ‘Ah, I don't think it's the right time’. But it was not an easy one to give up.”

When asked if he would consider stepping into Craig’s shoes once he steps down from the role, the A-lister responded:

“I’d seriously consider it.”

British actor Craig has hinted that the forthcoming Spectre will be his last outing as Bond in a recent interview with Esquire magazine.

When asked if he would star in another film, he said: “At this moment, no. I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”

Craig added: “I don’t know. I really don’t know. Honestly, I’m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can’t even conceive it.”
