Harry Styles was forced to put his live presenting skills to the test as he stepped in to host the Late Late Show with just two hours warning.

The One Direction star was the impromptu host of the late night chat show on Tuesday after James Corden’s wife went into labour just moments before it went to air.

“I actually have some great news. Just half an hour ago, James and his wife Jules had a beautiful baby girl,” Styles told the audience.

The 23-year-old then told viewers that he had been at the hospital with the couple as they welcomed their third child.

“I was just at the hospital before I came to fill in and she looks a lot like James — mainly because James looks like a giant baby,” he said.

Styles then told the audience that he had been asked to fill in for Corden with just hours to spare, and had to interview guests including Owen Wilson, Joel Edgerton and Jane Krakowski.

“I was sitting at home two hours ago in this suit, obviously,” he said. “I got the call Jules was going into labour so James naturally called the funniest man he knew… he obviously wasn’t available.”

Just moments before the show, Corden tweeted the happy news out to his followers.

“Today we welcomed a beautiful baby daughter into the world. Both she and her mother are doing great. We can’t stop smiling,” he wrote.

“Thank you Harry [Styles] for stepping in to host the show at 2 and a half hours notice! x x x.”
