Nicole Kidman knew exactly how to put a smile on the faces of patients undergoing treatment at Sydney Children's Hospital on Monday.

The actress – who is an ambassador for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation – took time to attend a special screening of the tale, based on the children’s books by Michael Bond, at the hospital.

Despite playing villainous taxidermist Millicent, the children were excited to meet the 47-year-old, and took it in turns to pose for photos.

Looking as elegant as ever in a patterned gold shift dress with bright green heels, Kidman got down on one knee to talk to each child individually and was showered with gifts and flowers.

The mum-of-four is in Sydney to promote the new film. On Saturday she dressed up in a floor length Vera Wang gown for the red carpet premiere where she chatted to fans and planted a kiss on a giant Paddington bear.

Although the film is set to entertain hordes of young fans, Kidman says she won't be letting her daughters Sunday Rose, and Faith Margaret watch it.

Speaking to presenters Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode on BBC Radio 5 in September she said: "I was like 'I'll do this for my children' and then they're like 'oh my gosh are you playing the bear's mummy?'

"I'm like 'I'm not playing the bear's mummy, no, I'm playing the person ...' - and that's when I realised they can't go see this film, I'm playing the taxidermist who wants to hurt the bear. Oh, my daughter was mortified. It was a risk, a terrible risk. They can't see it now."
