George Clooney’s wife Amal gives birth to twins Ella and Alexander

George and Amal Clooney have welcomed their first children, a twin boy and girl.

The British human rights lawyer, 39, gave birth to their first children named Ella and Alexander on Tuesday morning.

“This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives. Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine,” said their spokesperson.

“George is sedated and should recover in a few days,” they joked.

The couple, who have been married since 2014, confirmed that they were expecting their first children back in February after months of speculation.

Clooney’s long-time friend Matt Damon was the first to confirm the news during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I was working with him last fall and he pulled me aside on set and I mean, I almost started crying. I was so happy for him. And I was like, ‘how far along is she?’ And he goes, ‘eight weeks’,” he said.

Damon added: “I’m thrilled for him. She’s amazing. He hit the jackpot. Just on every level.

“She is a remarkable woman. They’re gonna be great. They’re gonna be awesome parents. Those kids are lucky.”

Speaking about becoming a dad for the first time, the Ocean’s Eleven star recently said: “[I'm] even happier [than before]. I didn't know that we'd have kids. I was very happy that we were going to get married and then [a pregnancy] seemed like the next step.”

Back in March, he told Extra: “She is doing really great. She is amazing. I don’t have anything to do. There is nothing I can do to help, but make tea and stuff.”

Clooney said he has been practising for fatherhood and added: “I know swaddling… I know what I’m in for.”

The couple are currently reside in Sonning, Oxfordshire, where they plan to bring up their children.
