Taylor Swift fans have joked that the General Election was “overshadowed” by the singer’s decision to put all of her music back on Spotify – on the same day that Katy Perry dropped her new album.

The US pop superstar’s have been feuding for years, and Swift appears to have made the next dig.

Swift pulled her songs from Spotify in 2014, after criticising the effect of streaming services on the music industry.

But she reversed the move at midnight on Thursday – the exact same time Perry dropped her album – as a “thank you” to fans and to celebrate 1989 selling over 10 million albums worldwide.

Swift’s apparent sneaky move caused uproar on Twitter as fans brushed aside the hung parliament and new government to dissect the ongoing drama between Swift and Perry.

But Lily Allen was among those not feeling celebratory and condemned the move.

In response to an article about the move, she replied: “In other news, mean.”

Others agreed with one Twitter user posting: “Taylor Swift is so nasty and so rude. #petty.”

Another wrote: “Taylor Swift is the most pathetic pop star. She literally needs it to be about her all the time. She's f****** disgusting.”

The move comes days after Perry laid into the New Romantics singer on Carpool Karaoke and claimed Swift started the “situation”.

She claimed she was prepared to diffuse the “beef” but was met with a “shutdown” from Swift, who allegedly went on to write a song about it.

Addressing the feud she said: “Honestly, it's really like she started it, and it's time for her to finish it.

“I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn't speak to me. I do the right thing any time that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shutdown and then she writes a song about me, and I'm like, OK, cool, cool, cool, that's how you want to deal with it? Karma!”

“But what I want to say is that I’m ready for that BS to be done. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something, there’s going to be a reaction, and trust me daddy, there’s going to be a reaction. It’s all about karma, right?”
