Maisie Williams was left shaking and close to tears after she appeared to reveal a huge Game of Thrones spoiler… but it was all for April Fools’ Day.

The 21-year-old, who plays Arya Stark in the HBO hit, ran off the stage during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.

Fallon was grilling Williams on the final series, which kicks off later this month, when she appeared to let slip her character’s fate.

“During shooting, the final days were really emotional saying goodbye to all the cast,” she said. “I found out that Arya died in like the second episode...” Williams trailed off as she raised her hands to her mouth and became teary-eyed.

“Are you kidding me? That’s a spoiler,” Fallon said.

Visibly shaken, Williams asked: “Is this live? Can we edit that?”

She continued to apologise as Fallon comforted and reassured her that her epic ‘spoiler’ can be edited. He then called for an applause and asked her about the final season before she ran off stage.

A concerned looking Fallon followed her before the pair jumped out from behind a curtain shouting: “April Fools!”

Fallon said: “We got you guys so bad!”

Fans were bowled over by her acting with one commenting: “You definitely deserves an Emmy award for this performance.”

Another posted: “Her acting is just brilliant, she deserved on OSCAR for this.”

Others fell for the prank, with one disgruntled fan writing: I f****** hate April Fools. There’s always one that gets me and this was definitely it.”

Williams recently opened up about reprising her role as Arya, saying it left her mentally and physically broken.

“Nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop.

“You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.”

Game of Thrones season eight will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic on April 15
