Freddie Fox is excited about the challenge of spending only £5 on food and drink for five days - although he will miss dark chocolate and sea bass.

But the actor, 25, said he still plans to throw a dinner party as the face of Live Below The Line, a fundraising initiative in which participants are sponsored to live on £1 a day.

Supported by Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman, Ben Affleck and Tom Hiddleston and organised by Global Citizen, it aims to end extreme poverty across the world by 2030.

Fox, who has been romantically linked to Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas, and has starred in Cucumber and The Riot Club, said: “It’s a really imaginative and fun way to raise awareness and relay a message about a really important cause.

“I am not nervous, I am excited - I think it will be quite fun. But I am really going to miss dark chocolate - that’s my vice. I shouldn’t think I will be able to afford that with £1 a day.

“I am a better cook now than I used to be. I live near a good fishmonger and so I cook a lot of fish. I do a particularly mean sea bass that I am pretty proud of. I’ll miss that.”

Fox is a member of the Fox acting dynasty - his father Edward appeared in The Day Of The Jackal, his sister is Silent Witness actress Emilia while his cousin, Laurence, stars in Lewis.

He is going to attempt a dinner party during the challenge for a group of friends who are also taking part, saying: “Trying to do a dinner party for five on £5 - as in £1 for each person taking part - is going to be a challenge. It will be a Spartan-style affair.

“I will have to go through every cookbook my mother has ever given me and try and find a recipe for something interesting with rice and beans. I certainly won’t be cooking sea bass.”

He plans to keep himself to himself during the challenge, which runs from April 27 to May 1. He explained: “When I’m hungry I get angry. I think my Spartan dinner party might be quite short as I’ll be grumpy.”

Fox called on fellow Londoners to sign up, adding: “People all around us have to make choices between eating and medicine, clothing or school. That’s why people should take this challenge. I think it will start off fun and move into the profound.”
