Fifth Harmony has split a year after Camila Cabello announced she was quitting the band.

The girl group, who found fame on The X Factor, broke the news in a lengthy Twitter statement, telling fans they are taking a “hiatus” to “pursue solo endeavours”.

Fans feared a split was imminent after Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei cancelled their upcoming Australian tour last month, blaming busy schedules.

The statement read: “Reflecting on the last six years since we started on X Factor we’ve realised just how far we’ve come and we appreciate everything so much, more now than ever.

“We’ve really had one hell of a memorable journey together and can’t begin to express our gratitude to y’all for coming along with us on this wild ride.”

The said after “six years of going hard, non-stop” they realised that they need to break and go solo to stay “authentic to ourselves and to [the fans]”.

Speaking about future projects they said: “We are all very excited and grateful to be able to take this time to learn and grow creatively and really find our footing as individuals.”

Thanking their fan base they finished: “To our Harmonizers, thank you for everything we have been able to build as Fifty Harmony.

“With your love and encouragement we will continue to build on ourselves, support one another in everything we do, and keep making you proud, each other proud and ourselves proud.”

Fifth Harmony was put together on the American X Factor in 2012. The girl group, who finished third, enjoyed hits with Work From Home and I'm In Love With a Monster before Cabello announced her split in late 2016.

The remaining four members went on to release their third studio album the following year.
