Emily Blunt has revealed that she took singing lessons before starring in Into the Woods as singing is something she has always found “very nerve-wracking”.

Talking at a press conference at London’s Corinthia hotel, Blunt, 31, revealed that despite feeling nervous while singing, she couldn’t say no to a part in the fairytale musical.

She said: “I always enjoyed singing in school, and singing concerts, and plays. I've always found it very nerve-wracking.

"But in this case it was hard to say no because I wanted to work with Meryl [Streep] and I love Rob [Marshall] and the part was so extraordinary. It was very hard to resist, so I had lots of singing lessons."

The Devil Wears Prada actress – who has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the film adaptation - also revealed her surprise when her husband sang a song from the musical before she auditioned.

She said: "I was surprised that my husband, who does not like musicals, knew Into the Woods and even sang 'Into the Woods' when I was going for my audition."

Blunt was joined at the conference by her on screen husband James Corden, who plays the baker, Meryl Streep who plays the wicked witch, Tracey Ullman who stars as Jack’s mother, producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt, and director Rob Marshall.

Into the Woods is set for UK release on January 9.
