Emily Blunt stole the show at the London premiere of her new film Sicario in a metallic red gown.

Seemingly unfazed by the rain, the A-lister posed in the floor-length column dress outside the Empire Leicester Square on Monday evening.

Blunt, 32, who plays an FBI agent enlisted to help fight the war on drugs in Mexico, was joined by co-star Benicio Del Toro and the film’s director Denis Villeneuve.

The British star was joined at the opening by a host of TV stars including Richard Hammond, Stephanie Pratt and Ricky Rayment.

Speaking about finding good roles for women in Hollywood, Blunt recently said:

“A film, when it's being made, is usually geared towards teenage boys as they are the ones who seem to be going out and - according to the numbers - buying tickets.

“But as my mother would say: ‘Well, I'm not a teenage boy and I don't want to see a film about robots and aliens’. So I think there's a huge majority of people who are not in that age group or that gender group.”

She added: “I just believe that we've got to keep writing fantastic roles for women and keep forwarding this fight because I think the tides are turning.”

Blunt is gearing up to play the lead role in the forthcoming Girl on a Train, based on Paula Hawkins’ smash hit novel.

This week the actress revealed that she would be playing the character as a Brit, despite the film being set in New York.

She told the BBC: “It's moved to New York but I'm going to play her as British, that was a decision Tate and I made recently.

“I try not to get weighed down with what people are going to think of me. I'm going to have my own take on it.”

Blunt made headlines last week when she was forced to apologise after joking that she wasn’t ‘thrilled’ to have just been made a US citizen.

She told the Today Show: “It was so not the intention to hurt anybody or cause any offense, so I really apologize to those that I caused offense.

“It was just an off-hand joke. I think I'll probably leave the political jokes to late night or something.”
