Ed Sheeran has joined forces with the characters on Sesame Street to release a children's song.

The Lego songwriter enlisted the help of Sesame Street's famous characters including Elmo and Grover to perform the song, Two Different Worlds.

Double BRIT Award winner Sheeran had initially finished filming the video for the song back in October 2013, posting a teaser picture with his "new band".

But the 24-year-old finally announced the release of the video today to his 13.1m followers on Twitter.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en">Filmed that a long time ago, happy it's finally out— Ed Sheeran (@edsheeran) <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://twitter.com/edsheeran/status/583326235536855040" class="body-link" data-vars-item-name="BL-72211-https://twitter.com/edsheeran/status/583326235536855040" data-vars-event-id="c23">April 1, 2015</a>

He wrote: "Filmed that a long time ago, happy it's finally out."

The educational song was produced to teach young children about the dos and don'ts when walking home from school.

In the video, Sheeran plays his trademark acoustic guitar while the Sesame Street regulars sing along.

It appears to be a hit with the fans, having already accumulated over 87,000 hits on YouTube.

Sheeran has been busy of late, with his new song Bloodstream - featuring drum and bass group Rudimental - reaching number one in the UK charts, as well as a surprise cameo in Australian soap Home and Away.
