Ed Sheeran admits he’s keen to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding as he receives MBE

Ed Sheeran threw his hat in the ring to perform at next year’s royal wedding as he picked up his MBE.

The chart-topping singer-songwriter admitted that he’d be keen to sing as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle walk down the aisle in May after the investiture at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

When asked if he would perform the honour at the Windsor Castle nuptials, Sheeran replied: “Yeah, why not?”

The Shape of You singer, who is just 26, received the honour from Harry’s father Prince Charles earlier in the day.

Discussing their brief chat, Sheeran said: “He was asking me if I was still selling lots of records and I told him I've got a concert in New York tomorrow, and he was quite surprised I was flying after this.

“My grandfather was a massive royalist. He had all the commemorative plates and stiff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it's actually quite a nice full circle thing. I guess he'd be pretty proud."

Speaking about his global success, Sheeran said that most of his achievements were simply down to “persistence” rather than talent.

“I think it's persistence. I don't have a vast amount of talent compared to other people,” he said.

“I think talent is like 30% of it and persistence, drive and self-belief are the other ones, which I guess are all the same thing.”
