Dedicated fans of The Devil Wears Prada were left in shock after a newly-discovered deleted scene was shared online – and served up an entirely different ending.

The 2006 film starred Meryl Streep as icy fashion editor Miranda Priestly who employed Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) and Andrea 'Andy' Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as her first and second assistants respectively to help her as she runs fictional fashion magazine Runway.

But a one minute clip appears to change everything fans thought they knew about Priestly.

The deleted scene was shared on Twitter alongside the caption: “I'm just seeing this deleted scene from The Devil Wears Prada for the first time, and honestly it changed the whole movie for me.”

It shows Priestly hobnobbing at a glamorous black tie gala held by Runway when her drunk husband interrupts a conversation she is having with her boss, Irv Ravitz.

He slings insults at Ravitz before Sachs steps in to diffuse the situation.

But the biggest shock of all comes when Priestly appears to lose her frosty character and whisper “thank you” to Sachs for saving her from embarrassment.

One fan, who was far from OK with the scene, tweeted: “This Devil wears Prada removed scene will make you question your own life. How a movie scene can change everything!”

Another posted: “What. The. F***. This deleted scene from Devil Wears Prada has just blown my mind. Changes the whole film.”

Directed by David Frankel, the hit film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Streep, as well as five BAFTA's and a SAG Award.

Other big names included Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier and Gisele Bündchen.
