David Beckham proved his prowess in the water as he tried his hand at the sport in the south of France.

The Beckhams are currently holidaying with Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish on the French coast ahead of Romeo Beckham’s 16th birthday on Saturday.

The youngster was surprised with a giant cake complete with a sparkler while dining out with his family and godparents Sir Elton and Furnish on Wednesday night.

Sir Elton was seen singing along as he tapped on his plate while dad David couldn’t stop smiling.

The former England captain was due to appear at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was charged with exceeding a 40mph speed limit in contravention of a local traffic order, but did not attend in person.

He is accused of doing 59mph in a 40mph zone while driving his Bentley along the A40 between Paddington and Kensington on January 23.

A not guilty plea was entered on 17 August, according to the court list.

A case management hearing will take place at Wimbledon magistrates’ court on September 4. His trial will take place at a later date.
