Dame Judi Dench pulled off a hilarious video-bomb on the Olivier Awards red carpet.

The iconic British actress decided to add a little humour to proceedings as she crept up behind friend Zoe Wanamaker while she was being interviewed.

While the actress, who presented an award during the ceremony, was talking about the year in threatre, Dame Judi interrupted to say: “Don’t believe a word she says.”

“How did you know?” asked Wanamaker, before running off to give her friend a hug.

After composing herself, Wanamaker said: “Tonight I’m presenting Best Supporting Actor in a Musical, which I think is one of the best awards to give.

“I think supporting roles are something that people should recognise that helps create the whole thing, without that the show doesn’t work.”

Later in the evening, Dame Judi was named Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's production of The Winter’s Tale.

Collecting her award, she said: “Ladies and gentlemen, I'm absolutely livid as I had a bet with my grandson ... and I'm never going to be able to forget it.”

Other big winners on the night included musical Gypsy, which won four awards, Kenneth Cranham, who won Best Actor and Denise Gough who was named Best Actress.
