Dame Helen Mirren today left Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway shocked when she swore on live TV during an appearance on breakfast show, Good Morning Britain.

Mirren, 70, was on the ITV show where she was talking about a camping trip she went on with her then boyfriend Liam Neeson in the 1980’s.

Describing the weather during the holiday she said: “it p****d with rain.”

Seeing a visibly shocked Shephard and Garraway the Oscar winning actress attempted to rectify the blunder by saying “it rained a lot”.

After telling Garraway that she was “rather rude” following her look of surprise on finding out that the actress likes camping, Mirren said: “I love camping, and I still do. My husband (Taylor Hackford) unfortunately doesn't want to camp. I went camping with an ex-boyfriend of mine, Liam Neeson.

“I lived with him for four years, and we went camping in Cornwall - he loved camping as well. We had this little Deux Chevaux car - Liam 6ft 4in, his head was like sticking out the top of the car really.”

She continued: “And we had our tent in the back, and all our stuff, and our little stove, and we get down there and we're camping in this tiny tent, all 6ft 4in of Liam and me.

“And we camp in this field, not like an official camping site with electricity, loos and showers - just literally a field. And it p****d with rain, non-stop for like three days.”

Shephard quickly interjected: “Oh, we should apologise - we can't say things like that first thing in the morning. It's like one of those moments when you put your foot in your month. Apologies.”

Mirren then questioned why the word cannot be said, to which Garraway said: “Can we have that debate another time or we'll get fired? You may be the Queen but you can't save us.”

Viewers were quick to pick up on the accidental profanity with one tweeting: “Dame Helen Mirren has to be careful - she'll get the Shaun Ryder treatment - No live TV in case she swears!! Lol @GMB.”

Another wrote: “Brilliant! #helenmirren being #awkward on #GMB then swears!!!”
