Coronation Street drops actress Katie Redford over claims she lied about her age

Coronation Street bosses have dropped actress Katie Redford over claims that she lied about her age in order to secure a role on the ITV soap.

Last week ITV announced that Redford – who claimed to be 19 - would be joining the soap to play Gail McIntyre's 14-year-old granddaughter, Bethany Platt.

Fans on Digital Spy’s forum found a C.V which listed her date of birth as March 2, 1989 which would make her 25-years-old – 11 years older than her character Bethany.

Redford's Twitter handle was also allegedly changed from “katieredford89” to “Katieredfordtlc”.

In a statement released this morning ITV said: "Coronation Street have taken the decision to recast the part of Bethany Platt".

Bethany’s character was last seen in 2007 when she moved to Milan with her mother Sarah Louise (Tina O’Brien).

Fans of the show will see her character return to the Weatherfield cobbles shortly before the return of O’Brien.
