Comedian Brendan Healy dies aged 59 after cancer battle

Comedian Brendan Healy has passed away at the age of 59 following a battle with cancer.

The Geordie entertainer, known for his stand-up and roles in TV shows including Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, died on Thursday.

His family confirmed the news in a Facebook post, which read: “Last night Brendan passed away peacefully at 11.50pm after a 5 year battle with cancer.

“His strength, dignity and humour throughout his illness is an inspiration to all his friends and family.

“A much loved husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend to many, he will be sorely missed.”

Geordie duo Ant and Dec tweeted their condolences, writing: “Goodnight Bren. We will miss you. Xx #RIP.”

Healy was also well known for being part of the team behind the ‘Geordie’ pantomimes at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle.

He fronted children’s TV show Razzmatazz during the 1970s and went on to star in shows including Spender and Boon.
