It was a family affair for Claire Danes as she was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Danes, 36, looked stunning in a red dress and white heels as she posed alongside her parents Carla and Christopher at the unveiling of her star.

Speaking at the event the three-time Emmy winning actress paid tribute to her parents and thanked her fans for their support.

"This is really cool to see my fans come her and cheer me on," she said.

"That just means so very much to me. And of course, my parents are here. These are the two without whom I would be doing something else entirely."

The Homeland actress told the crowd that she was happy with the placing of her star, which resides outside a building constructed with the intent to house actors.

“This is a little overwhelming and totally wonderful,” she said. “I just learned that this building was built for actors because actors were such an unreliable unseemly bunch and they could never pay their rent and they needed some charity so it’s appropriate that I reside,” before joking: “I’ll give you the rent next month .”

The actress was all smiles as she listened to Homeland creator Alex Gansa praise her acting.

“I’ve watched Claire for five years now and I can tell you this - I've never seen anything like it," he said. "She can make you laugh she can break your heart and she can do it all in the same sentence.

"I honestly don’t know what I'll do when I don’t have Claire to write for anymore. Congratulations on your star, you are surely the brightest one I have seen.”
