Chris Hemsworth says he was left 'underfed and desperate' during the filming of new movie In the Heart of the Sea.

The 32-year-old A-lister, who went on an intense diet to prepare for the film, plays First Mate Owen Chase.

The drama tells the story of a famous 1820 whaling ship disaster that saw crew left stranded at sea for 90 days.

Speaking about changing his physique for the role he said: "There wasn't much acting required, we all felt exhausted and desperate, and that was kind of where we needed to be."

The stars of the film will be out on the red carpet tomorrow evening when the European Premiere takes place in Leicester Square.

It opens in cinemas on Boxing Day.
