New Top Gear host Chris Evans has reportedly splashed out '£330,000' to buy his formerly estranged daughter a brand new home.

The TV presenter, 49, who has previously spoken out about neglecting Jade when she was a small child, is thought to have made the purchase as soon as he signed his new '£3 million' contract.

A neighbour of Jade 28, who lives in Warrington, Cheshire, told The Sun: "Jade's a lovely girl and she seems really happy with the house."

Evans has admitted that he walked out on his daughter and her mother - Alison Ward - when she was just a few months old.

Writing about the split in his autobiography, he said: "Alison was totally selfless when it came to my ambition but I simply wasn't around enough to be supportive of her in the far more important task of bringing up a young child - in short, I was a selfish p****."

He continued: "came back to the house one day and Alison had had enough – she had gone back to her mum’s with the baby.

"What did I feel at the time? I’m ashamed to say relief. I saw Alison going back home as leaving me free to carry on chasing my dreams, but that’s where my head was at the time."

Despite the dramatic split, Evans reconciled with his daughter when she was a bit older, proudly announcing that he was about to become a granddad for the first time last year.

He told listeners on his Radio 2 show: "Over the weekend, while I was on my sick bed my daughter rang to tell me I was going to be a granddad.

"This now puts me staring straight down the barrel of becoming a granddad at the age of just 48.

"Noah is going to become and uncle as well as little Eli, who is just two, and Tash is going to be a grandma."
