Caroline Flack has revealed she nearly slept with her X Factor co-host Olly Murs.

The pair - who have been plagued by romance rumours during their stint on the ITV show - were close to taking their relationship to the next step while filming the Xtra Factor in 2011.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday she said: "There was a time where we nearly did have sex. It happened at the first Judges' Houses, four years ago.

"We had a lot of fun after filming and Olly was like, 'I’ll come see you in your room' and I thought, 'Oh my God, is it happening?'

"I was like [to the tune The Stripper] "dah-dah-dah-dah"... but nothing.'"

But the late night meeting didn't even end with kiss.

Flack continued: "We didn’t even snog. I don’t know whether we were just waiting for each other to make the first move. Maybe. But nothing happened."

Despite coming close, the Strictly Come Dancing winner said the moment has now passed for good.

"Once you’ve gone through that ‘almost’ phase you know it’s never going to happen," she said.

"People say we’re like Ross and Rachel from Friends, but we’re more like Joey and Rachel. Together as a couple it would just be so wrong."

But Flack has done little to quash romance rumours, leading fans to keep hoping for the pair to become official.

In November she told You magazine that her relationship with the Kiss Me singer is "not totally platonic" and last week she told ITV's Lorraine Kelly that the couple have an "innate understanding" of one another.

"We’ve always got on really well, but for some reason I didn’t think it was possible to get any closer," she said.

"But this series we’ve become so close, we’ve kind of had to stick by each other and we are just friends but there’s this innate understanding between us which I’ve never had with anyone."
