Caitlyn Jenner has tweeted her thanks to Orange Is The New Black actress Laverne Cox for her support.

Jenner, 65 - formerly Bruce Jenner - last month revealed her new identity on the cover of Vanity Fair following gender reassignment.

Transgender actress Cox was quick to offer her support.

Olympic medallist Jenner took to Twitter to thank Cox, and praised her work with the transgender community.

She tweeted: "@LaverneCox, you are fierce and fabulous! Your support means the world.

"Thank you for all that you do for the community. #TransIsBeautiful."

The actress later replied: "My pleasure. Sending you lots of love always. #TransIsBeautiful."

Cox was the first trans women to star in a major role in American television, the first trans women to be nominated for an Emmy for her acting and will be the first transgender waxwork at Madame Tussauds.

She heaped praise on Jenner following her gender transition and told Extra: "I think it's always powerful when another transgender person comes forward and speaks the truth of their experience authentically and lives visibly is revolutionary in a world that tells us we shouldn't exist. I believe it's deeply courageous."
