Bradley Cooper fans have branded his Best Director Oscars snub “inexcusable” after the Academy failed to acknowlegde his debut with A Star Is Born.

The Hollywood star, 44, made his first foray into directing with the remake of A Star Is Born, in which he also starred as musician Jackson Maine alongside Lady Gaga as Ali.

But while Cooper is nominated for Best Actor and the film itself for Best Picture, there was shock on Tuesday as he failed to bag a nomination for Best Director.

Fans were immediately outraged by his omission, hailing it the “worst snub” since Ben Affleck missed out with Argo in 2013.

One wrote: “BRADLEY COOPER SNUB IN DIRECTING GTFO OUT OF MY FACE #Oscars.”

Another fumed: “Just realised my man Bradley Cooper didn't even get a nomination!!!!??? Another gigantic snub!!! #OscarNoms.”

“Frustrated that Bradley Cooper didn't get in, but could this power A Star Is Born to Best Picture in the same way Ben Affleck's snub launched Argo?” mused somebody else.

In the months following the film’s release, Cooper has been nominated for both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for his direction.

He has also won a National Board of Review award in the USA as well as two at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for Best Director and ones to watch.

In the same year as his omission, Affleck’s film scooped Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay – something that could be replicated by Cooper’s A Star Is Born.

Lady Gaga is also nominated for her role in the film, as well as the hit song Shallow, Sam Elliott for Supporting Actor, one nod for Sound Mixing and another for Cinematography.
