Rami Malek joked he will give Daniel Craig “a run for his money” after he confirmed Bond 25 will be the actor's swansong.

It had been rumoured that Craig would enjoy one final outing as 007, but he hadn’t confirmed anything himself.

But Bohemian Rhapsody star Malek – who will star opposite him in the as-yet-untitled film – let slip that it will definitely be his “last film”.

“It’s Daniel’s last film but I’m going to give him a run for his money,” Malek said Good Morning America, minutes after his announcement. “It’s going to be thrilling,” he added before describing his character as “villainous”.

Asked about his “inspiration” for his latest role, Malek cited recent villains as his main motivators.

“I thought Javier Bardem in Skyfall did such a fantastic job, and Christoph Waltz [in Spectre]. All have been indelible villains,” he told the host.

“The whole franchise does something special. They give you a great villain, an iconic song at the beginning and those stick with me. I always looked forward to the opening song and credits. They get you.”

Malek promised fans that he will make sure Bond “does not have an easy ride” as he appeared via video link at the live Bond reveal in Jamaica.

Held on the sunny decks of Ian Fleming’s residence, director Cary Joji Fukunaga unveiled the brand new cast members.

Ana De Armas, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik., Dali Benssalah and Lashana Lynch have all joined the franchise.

Craig has long been rumoured to be relinquishing his spy status after the next film, with several A list names being bandied about.
