Barry Elliott will be laid to rest in front of hundreds of fans in Rotherham next week.

A public celebration will be held on August 17 before a private funeral for close family and friends at Rotherham United’s New York stadium.

Elliott’s family announced the arrangements in a statement, telling fans they have been left “overwhelmed” by the well-wishes from fans.

“As a family we would welcome fans to celebrate his life and pay their respects with us, outside of the New York stadium,” the statement read.

Elliott died, aged 73, of bone cancer which had spread to his lungs. His death was announced in a statement with his brother Paul telling fans he has been left in a “daze”.

The sibling duo worked as The Chuckle Brothers on hit children’s TV shows To Me… To You… and Chucklevision. Paul vowed to continue entertaining in the wake of Barry’s death, despite admitting it will be the “worst feeling”.

In a statement he said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for all your messages they’ve been hard to read but I read every one.

“It’s the worst feeling ever but I have to carry on as I know Barry would want me to having always been so supportive of each other in both work and our personal lives.”

Paul this week broke his silence to pay a heartbreaking tribute to his “very best friend” who he revealed had kept the severity of his condition “to himself and he kept it from me”.

“I still can't believe he's gone and that we will never perform together again,” he said in a statement.

“He always said that he wanted to die on stage and that he would work right to the end which he more or less did. He was a trooper in every sense of the word and right to the end.”

He continued: “God bless to my lovely brother and my very best friend of so many years. He will be sorely missed and I am in a daze. And thank you to everybody for all your lovely messages.”
