Avril Lavigne has accused Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg of “bullying” Nickelback after he made a joke about the band.

Lavigne - who split from Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger last year - called out Zuckerberg on Twitter after he joked there are "no good Nickelback songs" for an advert about his artificial intelligence assistant Jarvis.

The remark didn't sit well with Lavigne who said it was in “poor taste” – before adding that Nickelback has sold over 50 million albums.

In a Twitter post marked “Dear Facebook” she wrote: “Dear Mark, many people use your products - some people love them and some people don’t.

“Either way, you’re allowed your musical opinion however, your jab at Nickelback is in poor taste.

“When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what’s going on in the world today.”

She finished the note: “SayNoToBullying #TheJokeIsOld #NickelbackHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums.”

The tweet sparked a hilarious response from fans who were shocked to see the Sk8er Boi singer call out the social media mogul.

One user tweeted: “Avril Lavigne vs. Mark Zuckerberg is a friendly reminder that 2016 isn't over yet and there's still plenty of time for more weird.”

Others used Lavigne’s lyrics to mock the singer with one writing: “She said you're a h8er Boi, she said see ya l8er boi.”

Others defended Lavigne against the comments with one tweeting: "You're kinda right... Mark is not successful for his opinions, but Nickelback is very successful for their music."

A second tweeted: "I agree with you 100%. Jealousy is all it is. Can't wait for the next tour."
