Andy Cohen has leapt to the defence of Sarah Jessica Parker in her very public spat with former co-star Kim Cattrall.

Tensions between Parker and fellow Sex and the City actress Cattrall have seemingly reached boiling point with Cattrall lashing out at Parker for “exploiting her tragedy” following the death of brother Chris Cattrall.

Now, Parker’s close pal Cohen has defended the actress against claims made by Cattrall in the public post.

The radio host told listeners: “I thought it was fake. I was like ‘There’s no way Kim Cattrall has posted this on her Instagram'.

“This is a women who is in the middle of grieving the loss of her brother, which is tragic and sad.”

He continued: “She accused SJP of exploiting a tragedy. She follows Kim on Instagram, Kim posted about her brother dying and she expressed her condolences on the post. She posted it in a comment!

“I would not call that ‘exploiting a tragedy.’ What was she supposed to do? Say something bad? I mean, I don’t understand,” said the 49-year-old.

Last Sunday, Cattrall posted a note to Parker on her own Instagram account, along with a link to an article titled “Inside the mean-girls culture that destroyed ‘Sex and the City.’”

The 61-year-old – who played Samantha Jones in the 90s series – posted a picture of the words: “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker.”

She captioned the image: “My Mom asked me today ‘When will that @sarahjessicaparker, that hypocrite, leave you alone?’ Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.

“Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

Kim announced the death of her brother last week with a picture of the pair, with police later confirming his body had been discovered on his rural property in Blackfalds, Alberta, Canada.
