Amy Winehouse filmmakers to make documentary on the early years of Oasis

The filmmakers behind the acclaimed Amy Winehouse documentary are planning a new film on Oasis.

Asif Kapadia, who directed the hit film about the late singer, will act as executive producer alongside Bafta Award-winning James Gay-Rees.

The Road To Guantanamo director Mat Whitecross is on board to direct.

Screen Daily reports that the team have been granted ‘unprecedented access’ to Oasis’ archives, former band members and old footage.

As well as the Britpop band’s rise to fame in the 1990s, the film is also expected to deal with the dramatic falling out between Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The band had eight number one albums in the UK and had sold 70 million records by the end of the decade.

Noel Gallagher recently quashed rumours that the band would be reuniting to headline Glastonbury, as the festival didn’t ‘pay enough’.

Speaking to The Daily Star, he said: “I don't know where the rumours keep coming from about Glastonbury.

“Would we ever do it? They don't have enough money I'm afraid. That's the bottom line, they just don't pay enough."

Amy, which opened in the Uk earlier this year broke UK box records in its opening weekend.

The brand new film, which opened to rave reviews in Cannes back in May, has only been surpassed by Michael Moore’s 2004 hit Fahrenheit 9/11.
