Johnny Depp and his wife Amber Heard were joined by Alice Cooper as they provided hearing aids to locals in Rio de Janeiro.

The Hollywood trio provided more than 200 children and adults with hearing aids as part of Starkey Hearing Foundation’s partnership with the Rock in Rio festival.

Pirates of the Caribbean actor Depp was pictured fitting a hearing device in the ear of one young child while Heard was overwhelmed by emotion as she helped a woman to hear.

Bill Austin, founder of Starkey Hearing Foundation, said: “Hearing connects us to life, our families and to the world around us.

“It's a precious gift, and we are excited to work with the Hollywood Vampires to introduce so many to the world of sound and help them hear music for the first time.”

Those who benefitted from the charity were later invited to watch Depp and Cooper’s band, The Hollywood Vampires, headline the annual festival on Thursday night.

The super-group - which also includes Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and former Guns N’ Roses stars Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum - have recorded a self-titled album.

Cooper - whose notorious Seventies drinking club inspired the band's moniker - described Depp as a "really accomplished guitar player".

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the singer said: "He could play with anybody. He could get up and play with the Stones, with U2, anybody. The guy is a really accomplished guitar player.

"He’s played with everybody — he’s played with Aerosmith, he’s played with us, the Foo Fighters. He says, ‘This was my first love, rock’n’roll. Acting pays the bills but if you give me a choice, my guitar wins’.”
