Adele has missed out on an Ivor Novello nomination despite having a chart-topping new album.

The British superstar, whose latest album 25 reached number one on both sides of the Atlantic, has not been nominated for a prestigious music prize this year.

Celebrating song-writing and composing, the annual awards are voted for by a panel of music industry insiders.

Although her album is quite clearly the most popular of the year with the general public, is seems that it hasn’t made the cut with her fellow song-writers.

Stars who were shortlisted for a prize included Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, Wolf Alice, Years & Years and Jamie Lawson.

Skepta has been nominated for his song Shutdown, which is the first time a Grime artist has been recognised since Dizzee Rascal won the Inspiration Award back in 2010.

Paul Gambaccini, who presents the awards, said: “I think it’s important for that community to know they are being listened to.

“It’s important that all genres are represented, and that artists know their work is taken seriously, no matter what type of music they write.

“I’m certain someone like Skepta will take the Ivors more seriously because they know it’s about quality.”
