Adele has given up drinking in a bid to save her voice.

The pop superstar has been told to quit alcohol by her doctor after she became worried that it was taking its toll on her voice.

She told The Mirror: “I am not allowed to drink as it dehydrates my vocal cords.

“Alcohol blocks your ears when you get drunk and you get lairy, which makes you talk louder. I might raise my voice and my voice might go again.”

The 27-year-old also gave up smoking back in 2011 after she was forced to cancel a number of performances because of her sore throat.

She said: “If I’d carried on smoking I’d probably have died from a smoking-related illness and I think that’s really bad.

“If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself and that wouldn’t be something I’d be proud of.

“I absolutely loved [smoking], but it's not that fucking cool when I'm dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated,” she added.

Adele is currently celebrating more chart success after her new album 25 became the biggest selling in the US since her previous one.
