A wild mix of star turns
Pernickety perfectionists who naturally hide their talents under bushels. If you follow your sun signs then you'll know exactly who I'm talking about: Virgoans, of course, those eminently sensible creatures of the zodiac.
Now curator and painter Harry Pye (himself a Virgoan), has enlisted the help of other artists born under that sign, with Pye also contributing his own series of loosely biographical paintings.
The artists, unlike Pye's previous curatorial efforts, are not bound by a particular theme, so expect an assortment of the weird, wonderful and mildly amusing.
John Moseley has made a film about 100 windows; Lee Maelzer paints wheat; Billy Smart makes an improbable inventory of all that he has spent money on this year; and Lucy Soutter gives away her greatest secrets, probably no easy thing for the typical Virgoan.
Pye is a veteran organiser of eccentric exhibitions: in Viva Pablo artists were asked to contribute works that Picasso might have made had he been working today; and in an exhibition simply entitled Mothers, Pye asked 50 male and 50 female artists to paint a portrait of their mothers.
The results were sometimes silly, occasionally moving, but certainly for Pye's latest curatorial conceit expect nothing less than perfection.
