Tinie Tempah has offered a cash prize to students who scored top grades in their A-Level results.

The 31-year-old wished school leavers luck on receiving their results on Thursday – before offering £100 to those who got A grades or above if they sent him a photo of them with proof and the video for his new song, Whoppa, in the background.

The Pass Out rapper also offered commiserations to those who hadn’t quite got the grades they needed.

“Good luck to everyone getting their A-level results today,” he told his 1.7 million Twitter followers. “If you didn’t get the results you were expecting or into the uni you hoped don’t sweat you can appeal if your mock results were better.

“If not, it’s not the end of the world.”

The government is facing huge criticism for its handling of A-Level results, with around 300,000 school leavers receiving calculated grades after the summer exams were cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Exam boards downgraded nearly two in five (39.1%) pupils’ grades in England, according to data from Ofqual.

The proportion of students with A-level grade reductions was largest among those from the most deprived backgrounds, but the regulator has insisted that there was no evidence of systemic bias.

Ministers are now facing increasing pressure to review its moderation and appeals system after thousands of A-Level results were graded down, resulting in many missing out on their university places or planned further opportunities.

Sir Philip Pullman was among one of the famous faces criticising the Government over its handling of the grading system.

The writer said: “In terms both of the sheer number of students affected, and of the crushing unhappiness and life-changing consequences of each individual case, the A-level results fiasco is the clearest proof yet of this government’s frivolous incompetence.”
