Michael Clifford opened up about his mental health problems to fans on stage at a concert.

The 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist and singer told the crowd that he’d recently been to see a therapist as the band performed in Auburn Hills, Michagan, earlier this week.

Telling fans what he’d been doing during the band’s recent tour break, he said into the microphone:

“I was fixing some problems with my mental health.

"I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had. Anyways, I'm going to shut up now. We're going to play another song if it's okay?"

Back in June, the 19-year-old was burnt on stage when his hair was set alight by pyrotechnics, causing the band to cut their set short.

The pop star later reassured fans that he was fine, however, writing on Twitter: “Feeling loads better and my face is fine :) excited for the show tonight.”

He added: “There's been a lot of love spread around lately, thank you all so much :) All of us boys appreciate everything you do! And also thank you so much to all my friends for wishing me the best.”

Clifford’s fans were quick to show their support for him on Twitter this week after his on-stage admission.

With the hashtag #WeLoveYouMichael trending on Twitter, band supporters flooded the site with messages praising the star for his courage.
