A controversial documentary about gay and lesbian couples trying to have children is among the highlights of Channel 4's winter season, announced today.

The season also contains big-budget American imports, dramatisations of two terrorist atrocities and - of course - reality TV.

Programmes commissioned to fill the gap left by Brookside include: Hamburg Cell, about the plot behind the September 11 attacks; and Omagh, a film about the day in 1998 when a Real IRA car bomb went off, killing 29 people.

Takes on the reality TV format on offer are a spin-off of Wife Swap called Boss Swap, and a new series of Faking It.
