Busted make Incredible light show

Pop idols Busted switched on the Christmas lights in Regent Street in front of a crowd of 45,000. This year's 50th anniversary decorations are sponsored by Disney's Pixar animations and feature six characters from The Incredibles, which premiered in Leicester Square yesterday. Actor Samuel L Jackson, who is the voice of hero Frozone in the cartoon, was also at the ceremony.

He said of the film: "They wanted me to play Frozone because I have a cool voice, a cool factor, and I kind of personify that Mr Cool character." He added: "I've been coming to London three of four times a year and I love it. I guess I feel at home here," he added.

The blue and red Christmas lights feature flashing snowflake motifs and twinkling stars. Ten-year-old Sasha De-Wytt, from Chelsea, was impressed. Her mother Francesca, 39, said: "The last few years they've looked terrible, really tacky. This year they look great - the colours are fantastic. And we're both dying to see The Incredibles."

Elizabeth Tokavska, a 29-year-old tour guide from Kilburn said: "I come to the opening every year, and these are the best I can remember. Last year's lights were ordinary - these ones are much better." Co-star of the film, Holly Hunter, was also at the premiere along with Christian Slater, Jonathan Ross and Justin Hawkins of The Darkness.

The Incredibles opened in the US on Friday, and has already broken all records for a Pixar animated film, grossing £40 million and topping box office charts. It opens in the UK on 19 November.
