Dads, of course, love different things and not every pops' taste is the same. So to help you find the best places to take your old man, be him sporty, trendy, cultural or wanna-be comic, we've found the perfect places in London for a great lunch or dinner.

Trendy dad

He secretly fancies himself as a bit of a Jamie Oliver in the kitchen, and likes to think he’s still in touch with the younger generation. He’s an east-end charmer and a bit of a character, he’ll love somewhere young and trendy like Jamie’s place

Sporty dad

Sporty Dad is first up on a Sunday morning taking the dog for a jog or coaching the team into action. He’s kept his school trophies and (still) prides himself on being captain of the teen football team. Sporty Dad would enjoy tucking into a protein-packed burger and shake at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Music-mad dad

He raves about the time he went to the Marquee in London and saw The Who live, then puts the fear of God into you by mentioning (after a couple of pints) that he wouldn’t mind going to Glastonbury, one day. Music-mad Dad needs entertainment, and it’s all there at the Elvis Gracelands Palace, Old Kent Road. OK it’s not the Stones, but he’ll love it anyway.

Adventure dad

Adventure dad whipped you off to places like Kenya when you were a whipper-snapper and felt it important for you to bond with the lions. He’s a bit of an Indiana Jones at heart and would love to retire in some remote clime. He’d love the Blue Elephant in Fulham — it’s like a (highly sophisticated) jungle in there

Indulgent dad

Some dads love a bit of pomp and ceremony, and enjoy a good classy restaurant where the service leaves you feeling utterly spoiled. The Capital Hotel is the place for exquisite dining. But like most extravagances, it doesn’t come cheap!

Cultural dad

Always buried in the newspapers or a book, cultural dad wanted you to learn as much as possible about the world while you were growing up. Teaching you to read at least two papers a day, he loves whisking you off to galleries and museums for the afternoon and would be inspired by the Tate Gallery Restaurant

Comedy dad

Comedy Dad has the knack of turning any situation into a joke — always the one telling stories at dinner parties, he loves a good laugh and is a true entertainer at heart. Comedy Dad would be right at home at the Comedy Café (and more)

Designer dad

Designer Dad just loves taking the family out for a Sunday drive in his convertible. Always seen wearing the best shades and finest cuts of cloth, designer dad knows image is important. He’d love you to take him to Gordon Ramsay’s. After all, that’s so in vogue right now.
