Actor Ioan Gruffud was ridiculed on the set of King Arthur by co-star Ray Winstone - when he discovered his daily beauty routine.

The handsome Welsh actor, who plays Lancelot opposite Clive Owen and Keira Knightley, took his grooming for the role very seriously, although he encountered his fair share of embarrassing situations.

"I made a foolish decision to be one of the vainest Lancelots of them all," admitted Ioan, "and decided to curl my eyelashes every morning.

"I was caught out by Ray Winstone of all people, and as you can imagine, word got out and from that day I became Sir Lashalot!"

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday to promote the upcoming historical action flick, Ioan also confessed that he had trouble growing the beard required for the part of the dashing knight.

"It took me about three months to get the scraggly thing you see in the film," he laughs.

"Being Celtic, too, it came through red so I had to get it painted black every day as it grew out!"

King Arthur opens on July 30th.
