The influence of traditional African art on the West's 20thcentury masters has been well documented, but this ambitious celebration covers fresh ground, opening up the continent's contemporary art scene and presenting works by more than 60 artists in a dizzying range of media.

The show is arranged according to three broad themes: City And Land, where you'll find the photographs of South African David Goldblatt and Ghanaian El Anatsui's 8m high bottle-top "cloth"; History and Identity, featuring an installation by Turner Prize nominee Yinka Shonibare, as well as spectacular self-portraits from photographer Samuel Fosso; and Body And Soul, where Kenyan Wangechi Mutu presents the mixed-media collages that have won her acclaim.

Alongside the Hayward, four other galleries around the world have helped to curate Africa Remix.
