Naiise to see you : Singapore design store opens pop-up in London and ES gets an EXCLUSIVE first look

Singapore’s hottest design retailer shuns the sweat shop to bring east London a taste of Asian style

High rise infinity pools, well cut suits and impeccably clean streets – the people of Singapore definitely know a thing or two about style.

That’s why, when the founder of country’s coolest design concept store, Naiise, announced he would be opening a pop up shop on Brick Lane, design-loving Londoners rejoiced.

Set up in 2013 by Dennis Tay to offer Singaporeans designers an online platform for selling their products, the company has gone from strength to strength, with young professionals flocking to kit out their wardrobes and homes with its über cool products.

Shunning the idea of the sweat shop or large scale production, Naiise offers its designers a market place to showcase and sell their wares without losing integrity and shoppers the chance to pick up unique pieces at reasonable prices.

Thanks to the huge success of the online shop, Tay (with his wife Amanda Eng) has opened six retail stores across the Asian city in the last four years and is now bringing the concept to The Old Truman Brewery in London.

Completely focused on craft and design, Tay and Eng have collaborated with a host of independent designers to brink lucky UK shoppers a range of limited edition products, including an origami bulldog designed by ninetyninestates and G.F.Smith and a geometric print silk scarf from Binary Style – all of which can be bought at the store.

Customers can expect to find a range of quirky homeware and fashion showcased in one of London’s most iconic spaces and thanks to the help of creative consultancy Good Magnetic, the store itself feels like something of a work of art, with the concrete and steel interior of The Old Truman providing the perfect contrasting backdrop for the beautiful products on sale. There’s even a printing press where customers can spend a relaxing few minutes designing a print to take home - which is exactly the kind of thing us stressed-out city dwellers need.

Naiise opened its doors on October 27 and will run until November 19, making it a great one-stop-shop for completing the dreaded Christmas shopping.

Anyone in the capital after a quirky gift for a loved one will revel in the broad and exciting range on offer. Out-of-towners, needn’t despair either - the UK will shortly be getting an online store too.

As Tay said when speaking to the Evening Standard, “our concept in essence is that our products are cool and people love them.

“We decided to come to London because it’s the world’s design capital.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Naiise will be at the Old Truman Brewery, E1, from October 27 until November 19; for more information visit trumanbrewery.com
