As someone who identifies as a 4c sun, 4b rising in hair texture, my life is a never ending quest for the holy grail hair products to keep my coils healthy and hydrated. So when the Lush natural hair range launched, I was more than intrigued. Known for its cruelty-free, natural skincare, hair and beauty products, it only made sense for the brand to tap into the natural hair community.

Lush’s natural hair range boasts six products including a co-wash, two conditioners and three styling products. It was developed with Afro Hair Care specialist, Sarah Sango, who describes the range as “made with natural ingredients that love on the curls and coils of Afro hair. When I look at these six products sitting together, I think joyous thoughts, knowing from cleansing to defining my style there is finally an Afro Hair Care range available for the community in every Lush store.”

I’ll say it now, otherwise you’ll be sick of me repeating it with every review - this is Lush so of course every product smells so good, you will practically need to gag yourself to stop from eating it. Now that’s out of the way, here is a product by product break down.

Avocado Co-Wash

Lush

This was the product I was most reluctant to try. I’ve never used a co-wash and have heard mixed reviews about whether or not it’s actually good for natural hair. Nevertheless I took a deep breath and went for it, rubbing the co-wash bar into my scalp and massaging it in. It lathers beautifully and after two uses I was out the shower and my hair was noticeably softer and shinier. I am officially a co-wash convert.

Power Conditioner

Lush

This conditioner was made to add moisturise and thicken hair with ingredients such as maple syrup and sweet potato adding volume. This one is recommended for those who like to add heat to their hair (myself included). This did make my hair soft and easy to detangle, however it wasn’t any more extraordinary than my usual conditioner.

Glory Conditioner

Lush

Glory contains okra gel which is rich in magnesium and helps to thicken and volumise your curls. Though I do use heat often, I definitely preferred this one over Power and saw a huge difference in how much softer and moisturised my hair was after using it. This one is definitely going on my shopping list.

Super Milk Conditioning Spray

Lush

I am always on the hunt for the perfect leave-in. Though the Super Milk Conditioning Spray hasn’t quite hit the spot, full of almond, coconut & oat milk, it’ll make for a good stand-in until I finally find The One. I used this after washing out my conditioner before blow-drying and though I really had to massage it in to stop it sitting in my hair, it was great for detangling and hydrating.

Renee’s Hair Souffle Hair and Scalp Oil

Lush

With ingredients like Shea butter, avocado oil and castor oil packed into this little miracle jar, I have to say this was one of my favourite products in the range. I use this as the oil in my L.C.O routine and right before I use heat on my hair. It really does make a difference in how soft and shiny my locks are after blow drying, especially when melted down.

Curl Power

Lush

Much like leave-in conditioners, I am also in desperate need of a trusty moisturiser that doesn’t sit on my hair or give me weird build-up. Much like the Super Milk Conditioning spray, Curl Power comes close enough for me to happily use it until my dream cream comes along. It pairs really nicely with Super Milk and my hair drinks it up with relish, maintaining its softness for days before needing to top up again.
