? Circle Line Harbour Tour (www.circleline.com)
Where: Departs Pier 83, West 42nd Street.
When: Monday, 10am. Said to offer the best view of the Statue Of Liberty, the semi-circle tour (the bottom half of Manhattan) we took was only a third full. Most of the tourists on board were Americans.

? Gray Line Tour (www.grayline.com)
Where: Departs 777 8th Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets.
When: Saturday, Sunday through the day. Manhattan's equivalent of London's hop-on hop-off open-top buses were quiet but got busier as the day went on. No problems in getting a seat either up or downstairs. Tour guides were openly emotional when passing within sight of the WTC.

Where: 49th Street and 3rd Avenue.
When: Monday, 7.30am. A classic American steak house - its wine list has been voted New York's best for several years. A favourite of city traders, many regular customers died in WTC. Despite this, even for a Monday night, the restaurant was buzzing.
