Wiggins glad to get back in saddle

Bradley Wiggins admitted it was good to get back on his bike after a "big summer" - despite coming off again along with Mark Cavendish in a dramatic end to the first stage of the Tour of Britain as fellow Team Sky racer Luke Rowe claimed his first professional win in Norwich.

Tour de France champion and Olympic time trial gold medalist Wiggins was one of several riders involved in collisions as the peloton swept into the narrow lanes on the final leg of the 120 kilometres course at the Royal Norfolk Showground.

"I have had easier days on the bike, but it was nice to be back in the team racing, to have a job, a role and routine," he said.

The race seemed to have been set up perfectly for Cavendish, who is using the Tour as a warm-up for his world title defence later this month.

However, it was not to be for the Manxman as he crashed out along with sprint rival Tyler Farrar of Garmin, to leave Welshman Rowe to take a clear run at the line in the baking sunshine.

For Wiggins, it has certainly been an amazing spell of his career - one which has catapulted the 32-year-old to sporting superstardom.

Wiggins will, though, not be part of Team GB's victory parade through London on Monday, as the Tour of Britain heads to Nottingham and on towards Knowsley Safari Park.

"It has been a big summer for me, which is hard to come to terms with really - and you can never plan for what happens next," he said.

"When I go to Tesco and am trying to pack the shopping, and you are getting all this (reception), or you are trying to have a pizza with your kids in town, that is difficult.

"You are expected to know the answers to everything, you are the Messiah, everything wants to know what you think, but I don't know the all the answers - I am just human at the end of the day."
