Wigan woe over losing Tuson

Wigan have reacted with disappointment to the decision of home-grown forward Chris Tuson to quit the club.

Tuson, who is out of contract at the end of the year, became Wakefield's first signing for 2014 after agreeing a two-year deal.

Rugby manager Kris Radlinski said: "Although we offered Chris a three-year contract with a very competitive salary, he has accepted what he sees as a better two-year deal elsewhere and are disappointed he has come to that decision."

Wigan are also losing England forward Lee Mossop at the end of the year and Radlinski added: "We would like to thank Chris for his excellent service to Wigan and we know he will be looking to end his time with us on a high with success in both the Tetley's Challenge Cup and Super League."

Tuson, who has made over 70 appearances for Wigan including the 2011 World Club Challenge, admitted it was a difficult decision to leave his home-town club but insisted he remains committed to them for the rest of 2013.

"It's been a bit of a strange one because I've been at Wigan all my life so I've never signed for another team and that's obviously new to me," Tuson said.

"I spoke to (Wakefield full-back) Richard Mathers because I know him from when he used to play at Wigan and he said good things.

"They are a really good team as they proved on Sunday. It was a really tough game.

"I'm really excited and looking forward to coming here and showing Wakefield and the fans what I can do as well as bringing as my experience from playing in the Wigan team.

"I am a Wigan player and I want to see this season out with Wigan. I've come through this system with quite a few of the boys and I want to finish well, win some trophies and have a real strong end to 2013. Then I can start thinking about Wakey."
