Wet outfield delays start

The familiar sight of rain at Cardiff greeted the two teams
20 June 2013

The start of the second Champions Trophy semi-final between India and Sri Lanka was delayed by a wet outfield in Cardiff.

The heavy rainfall which had hit the Welsh capital overnight relented around 90 minutes before the scheduled 10.30am start time, but umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Kettleborough opted to give the area outside the square more time to dry.

The toss was pushed back to 10.40am, with play now due to commence at 11am. The game is still due to run to a full 50 overs a side.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and understandably elected to field in the overcast and damp conditions.

Dhoni's side were unchanged from their final group fixture against Pakistan, while Sri Lanka made two changes from their win over Australia as Jeevan Mendis and Thisara Perera came in for vice-captain Dinesh Chandimal and Shaminda Eranga.
